Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist, and even a commentator at NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington the following year, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News a year later. In 1981 she started reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was promoted to the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was part of the panel in 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered The White House first for NBC News between 1981-1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. She covered a myriad of important stories like arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively along with President Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
